Long Gone Stokely
Champion Long Gone Stokely was an outstanding bird
dog. The handsome black and white setter males trademark was a striking posture around birds. “Stokely” had
a very successful field trial career winning The 1979
North American Open Woodcock Championship, Runner Up in the 1980 International Amateur Woodcock
Championship (When” Bernie” was eighty years old!)
with 6 finds on both grouse and woodcock, and won
the Setter Club of New England’s Grouse Classic, which
is now the New England Open Grouse Championship.
“Stokely” was “Bernies” constant hunting companion as the rugged setter was shot over heavily from New Brunswick to Louisiana. But “Stokes” most lasting legacy will be in his production of classy and winning offspring. “Stokely” is the sire of Grand National Grouse Champion, Ch. Stokely’s Diablo Jake (who is the sire of the legendary 6x Ch. Stillmeadows Jim).Multiple Ch. Tip Top Mollie who also placed in the Grand National is a direct daughter of Stokely. R.U. Ch Pine Hill Megan is a sister to Jake, and both are older brothers and sisters to Stokely’s Diablo Ace, the all-time producer of grouse and woodcock champions.
The quality of this production is most amazing as Long Gone Stokely never had a stud add in any publication in his life, and was not available for breeding very much as the dog was in the south most winters, with “Bernie”, hunting!
